Shipping to Namibia

January 15th, 2010 by wavecrest

Wavecrest Ltd has many years experience in moving cargo to Africa and provides regular ro/ro and full container shipping services to Walvis Bay, Namibia.

Walvis Bay, Namibia is an important transit gateway to other landlocked African countries such as Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe as well as to neighbouring Angola.

Ro/ro services are operated from Sheerness on a monthly basis and from Immingham on a twice monthly basis. All types of rolling cargo are accepted including cars (from Sheerness only), vans, trucks of all descriptions, trailers and coaches.

To save on shipping costs, trucks and trailers can be loaded with cars, personal effects etc (at owner’s risk) provided they are correctly secured for sea transit.

The next ro/ro departures are as follows -

Mv “Green Cape” - sails Immingham 17th February. ETA Walvis Bay 12th March

Mv “Palmela” - sails Sheerness 25th February. ETA Walvis Bay 11th March

Mv “Golden Isle” - sails Immingham 1st March. ETA Walvis Bay 22nd March

In addition to our ro/ro services, we also offer a regular full container service from Tilbury to Walvis Bay for personal effects, cars and commercial goods.

Due to the large volume of containers that we ship to Namibia each year, we are able to offer very competitive rates.

The next container departures are as follows -

Mv “Green Cape” - sails Tilbury 17th February. ETA Walvis Bay 12th March.

Mv “Golden Isle” - sails Tilbury 1st March. ETA Walvis Bay 22nd March.

We have a very reliable well established agent in Walvis Bay to assist with local Customs clearance formalities.

Ford Model A car awaiting loading

Last week Wavecrest Ltd was called upon to ship a vintage Ford Model A car to the United States for expert renovation.

Unfortunately for reasons of discretion we are not at liberty to divulge the name of our client but let’s just say he is a member of a European Royal Family….

Ford Model A car

The car was collected on a covered transporter and delivered to Wavecrest’s warehouse facility in Gravesend were it was immediately loaded into a 20′ container.

Ford Model A car safely secured

Great care was taken to ensure the car was safely lashed and secured in the container.

Wavecrest has been handling shipments of vehicles both in containers and using roll on/roll off ships to worldwide destinations for over fifteen years now. During this time we have handled every conceivable vehicle from vintage cars and motorbikes to second hand trucks and coaches.

Ten things to do before you export your car

July 16th, 2009 by wavecrest

Here is a useful list of ten things to do or think about before you permanently exporting your car from the UK -

1. First things first. Before deciding to ship your car overseas, you will need to check if there are any restrictions on the importation of your vehicle or whether you require any import permits with the relevant authorities in the country of destination.

Many countries have restrictions on the import of second hand vehicles - for example maximum age limits, left hand or right hand drive only etc.

2. Assuming your vehicle is OK to be shipped, contact Wavecrest Ltd for advice on shipping methods and for a competitive quotation.

Wavecrest Ltd can ship vehicles on roll on/roll off services to many destinations, for example, South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Tanzania, Cyprus, Malta, the USA, Australia, New Zealand etc.  If you wish to ship personal effects or commercial freight with your vehicle, Wavecrest Ltd is able to pack containers at their warehouse facility in Gravesend, Kent and ship to practically any port in the world.

3. Depending on the country of destination, your vehicle may need to undergo some form of pre-shipment inspection for roadworthiness and compliance with local standards. For example, Kenya and Tanzania. Wavecrest Ltd will be able to advise you on these requirements but you should allow time for any required inspections to be undertaken.

4. If you decide to go ahead and arrange the shipment, please ensure that the vehicle is in good running order. Should the vehicle breaks down at the port of loading additional costs may be incurred if mechanics have to be brought in to effect repairs.

5. Vehicles should be thoroughly cleaned (including underneath and around the wheel arches) to prevent possible problems at port of destination. This is particularly important if you are shipping to countries such as Australia or New Zealand that have very stringent regulations on the import of soil, plant matter etc.

6. If you have purchased your vehicle on a finance arrangement - e.g. a car loan, HP, it may not be permanently exported if there is outstanding finance without the written consent of the finance company concerned.

Warning - the Transport Police at the ports do check vehicles for outstanding finance and will impound them if instructed to do so by a finance company.

7. When you are ready to go ahead, please contact Wavecrest Ltd to make the booking arrangements.  Send a copy of the V5 (logbook) registration document to Wavecrest Ltd together with an approximate value for the vehicle and your address/contact details in the UK and overseas.

Wavecrest Ltd will book space on the ship, make out delivery notes (which will need to accompany the car to the port of departure) andl also complete the UK customs formalities.

8. Arrange marine insurance, if required, for your vehicle with a suitable insurance broker.

9. Deliver your car to the port of departure as directed. If you are not able to deliver the car to the port of departure yourself, Wavecrest can arrange for the collection of vehicles from all parts of the UK at competitive rates.

10. Once the vehicle has been shipped from the UK please remember to complete and detach the section of the V5 registration document to inform the DVLA that your vehicle has been permanently exported.

Wavecrest Ltd can be contacted on Tel: 01474 331146 or e-mail: glen@wavecrest.co.uk
